Authentication Authorisation and Accounting
Details:
Summary of progress
The investment plan for Platforms for Collaboration will be based on some view of the technology development underpinning services for Authentication, Authorisation and Accounting, and their likely deployment and adoption rate.
At its simplest:
- Authentication is about who is trying to do what
- Authorisation is about who can do what
- Accounting is about who did what
At the enterprise level, the increasing deployment of IT systems to support administration based on self-service models depends on robust IT support for AAA. This discussion is to identify the means by which enterprise AAA systems can be arranged to also support pan-enterprise AAA so that collaboration is enhanced rather than curtailed by these services.
The results of a recent CAUDIT
on-line survey shows that many CAUDIT members have aggregated identity management systems and that most are planning projects in this area over the next two years.
- A scoping document sets out some of the rationale for proceeding with the consultation
- The presentations and notes from the first workshop are also available here.
That workshop led to the following four actions and a further meeting planned for 23 November to review progress with these actions.
- Develop a fleshed out description of the Aus-HERT Federation Agent
- Develop use cases that show how to connect the proposed Aus-HERT fabric to application activities: data sharing, conference booking, twikis, grid services etc
- Scope and work towards definitions and demos of the connecting components needed in some of the use cases based on common products
- Ensure our developing plans line up with AGIMO/AGTIF and others
In the meantime fuding has become available to proceed to implement a trust federation and plans are being developed for that purpose. Initial details
available here.
