Research Data Storage Infrastructure

The Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research is continuing to conduct sector consultations in relation to the $50 million Super Science Research Data Storage Infrastructure (RDSI) project.

In April, the Department issued an RDSI Discussion Paper, which received more than 50 submissions from universities, research institutions, IT companies and individuals. On the basis of this feedback, the RDSI will require an implementation approach that provides for a small number of nodes, a consistent user experience across the infrastructure and, to the extent possible, delivers technical compatibility across the nodes.

A letter provided by the Department to the respondent's to the discussion paper summarised the overall feedback that was received.

Further consultations are now being undertaken to assist the Department to develop an appropriate implementation model for the RDSI investment.
