NeAT Projects Under Development
Ideas being further developed
The completed NeAT proposals for the ideas being developed are provided below:

In addition:
- A biotechnology proposal from the first round of NeAT project development is still progressing
- The services that might support collaboration in the humanities will be explored further
Background
During October 2008, a call for ideas was made, please see the
Call for Input for the details.
Over November and through to the end of January, NeAT considered those ideas and undertook two evaluations. During the first evaluation NeAT considered projects from a feasibiliity perspective. Ideas needed to first be ready for development (ie not requiring significant technical development or research) and then either identify specific needs and leading example users, and specific technologies and likely service providers that would sustain the service in future, or NeAT needed to form a view that needs, users, technologies and providers did exist to support the idea. The projects with the most likely chance of success were then further considered in an evaluation related to their early ability to achieve impact.
During the evaluation, concern was raised about the number of ideas that had similarities to each other and existing NeAT projects or which related to services under development by ANDS and ARCS. The difficulty NeAT faced was that given the limited funding available, it would be better to undertake related ideas in sequence or together, so that learning might be transferred, and it would be difficult to support a new NeAT project duplicating work already underway.
Consequently proponents of ideas were advised one of five possible outcomes:
- A contact point with ANDS and ARCS to progress the idea further for project planning
- An invitation to work further with NeAT on distilling a project from multiple ideas
- A contact point to consider how the idea relates to existing NeAT projects
- A contact point with ANDS or ARCS to review how the idea might be addressed by, or influence, their own developments
- An invitation to work with ANDS and ARCS to see how research identified in the idea could be assisted
For the purposes of NeAT:
- A feasible service development means that we can identify common research needs, leading users, existing technologies and willing service providers
- An attractive service development supports the goals of PfC , has a realistic scale of investment and allows benefits to be achieved early and through small steps
Further information will be posted when available.
